Ground Floor Plumbing Work checklist

Ground floor plumbing work is a difficult task for my site because of it’s nature and complexity.  From long back i thought of writing this post but it got delayed.

Plumbing connections check list in the ground floor

  1. Kaveri water pipeline
  2. Kaveri meter chamber
  3. Kaveri water pipe line for drinking water
  4. Rain water harvesting
  5. Rainwater filter to Sump
  6. Pit connections
  7. Bathroom water and kitchen water
  8. Motor connections
  9. Bore Motor connections

Kaveri water pipeline: You need to provide a pipe line to get the water from municipality or corporation. Name of the water provider name will differ from one place to another town. In Bangalore people will call the water as Kaveri and in Hyderabad it is called as Manjeera. In towns it is called as municipality water. You need to keep a pipe from your sump to road. If you arrange this during construction then no need to dig inside the house. Observe  CPVC pipe below

Kaveri meter chamber: This line should have a provision to keep water meter. In cities water will be measured through water meter and billed to owner.  You need to construct a chamber to keep water meter. In this chamber Along with water meter leave a place to keep gate valve to stop the water when it is not necessary

Kaveri water pipe line for drinking water:

Have a provision to take drinking water. Kaveri water will be clean and taste good . This will be used as a drinking water. From kaveri water pipe line you need to bring one pipe to parking area.

One point you need to remember is this connection should be after the water meter. So that the water consumed by through this pipe also will be measured in the water meter. If you are not keeping like this water officials may object. So plan accordingly

Rain water harvesting:

At ground floor you need to do rain water harvesting. So from top floor you need to bring the water pipeline to rainwater harvesting pit.

Note: Excess water need to be connected to out side drain. During heavy rains rain water harvesting sump may not take all the water quickly. To avoid over flow connect the out flow pipe to out side drain.

 Rainwater filter to Sump:

Rain water can be filtered and can be diverted into sump. Read our post about rain water filter. To filter the rain water rain water filters will come. You need to fix the rain water filters based on the pipe sizes. This water will be taken into sump.

In case if you are not using rain water filter. You need to have a gate valve to divert the rain water to out side drain or into the sump

Note: People use either one of the methods Rain water harvesting OR Rainwater filter to Sump

Pit connections:

Pit will be in ground floor. You need to take care of inflow connections to the pit and out flow connections from pit.

In case if you have multiple pits you need to connect pits.

Bathroom water and kitchen water: waste water need to be connected to drain .

 Automatic water level controller connections:

From Sump to near Automatic water level controller:

Automatic water level sensors wire need to be brought from sump to water level controller . In below picture i forgot to lay this pipe in the ground. So i cut the parking tiles to lay that line.

From Automatic water level controller to overhead Tank:

sensors wire need to be taken from automatic water level controller to over head tank. Best way is to use the existing electrical pipes to the top of the building and from there to over head tank

Motor connections:

For monolithic motor: If you are keeping a motor outside you need to identify a place to keep that. Usually it will be under staircase or near sump

Motor inflow pipe:

with this pipe motor will suck water from sump. If needed you need to keep foot valve for this

Motor outflow pipe: This pipe need to go from motor to overhead tank

Bore Motor connections:

First you need to decide where you need to keep starter for the bore well

Bore motor wire: You need to take electric wires  cables till the bore well point from motor starter

Bore well pipe to sump: people will directly pump the water to over head tank. once it is full have a provision to fill ground floor sump also

Bore well pipe to overhead tank: This connection is required to pump water from bore well to over head tank

Conclusion: With all these connections ground floor plumbing work is complex. if you forget any item. you may need to dig  once again

Keep a pipe outside to pour water from water tanker (tractor ) into sump
